Question:
What whould be the medain salary of a lawyer just coming out of college?
I plan on going to Texas Tech School of Law.
Answer:
Salaries of lawyers vary widely according to the type, size, and location of their employer. Lawyers who own their own practices usually earn less than those who are partners in law firms.
As mentioned in my opening statement location plays a large role in average median salary. Additionally, those who work in large cities (i.e. New York, Los Angeles, & Boston) reported the highest median salaries at around $125,000.
Average Median Salary For Entry Level Lawyers 2005
Northeast, at $125,000,
West at $112,500
South at $105,000
Midwest at $95,000
**Highest First Year Salary reported by NALP was $130,000**
As expected, each year of associate experience brings several thousand dollars in increased compensation: median salaries for eighth-year associates ranged from $109,000 in small firms to $181,500 in the largest firms, with a median for all reporting firms of $145,000.
